Updose #6 (50mg)

This week is monumental for Carter.  It is the last week of liquid peanut protein and on to peanut flour next week.  On Friday 2-26-16 he was updosed to 50mg which is equal to 2ml of solution E. We had another very uneventful dose and haven't had any issues so far.  We are very excited to get to move over to peanut flour so we don't have to carry around the liquid in an ice pack and worry about if we are shaking it enough.  I am starting to feel more relieved, less stressed and more excited for the future now what we are about 6 weeks in.  We even had a time where he was running around within the first hour of his dose (we didn't realize he was running around until it was too late) and thankfully didn't have any issues.  I pray this continues to go as well as it has.  Such a blessing.  OIT works!

Updose #5 (37.5mg)

So we updosed in the office today. We are on the E solution and taking 1.5ml=37.5mg of peanut protein.  He took it like a champ and had no issues.  So we will continue on that for another week and then we get our last liquid dose next week and then move on to peanut flour.  He still had quite a bit of inflammation in his nose so the doctor still wants us to use the neti pot and the nasal steroid. He said when we are all done with the peanut OIT that we may want to do other testing to see what is exactly causing his allergy symptoms (dust, pet dander) to see what we can do.  But he isn't complaining and things are ok now so we are just going to keep going.  We had a very uneventful morning at the office, which is always great.  I can't believe how fast it is going!

Updose #4

On Friday we updosed to a new solution, solution E.  It is a high concentration solution that we will be on for 3 weeks and then we move to peanut flour. Carter is taking 1 ml = 25mg of peanut protein. His updose appointment was uneventful again and he is doing great.  He had his Valentine party at school so he was anxious to get back.

Updose #3 (20mg)

Last Friday we had updose number 3!  Everything went  smoothly and we are now on 20mg of peanut protein.  That is 8ml of solution D.  This Friday we move to solution E.  The doctor did say his nasal passage/sinus is still realy inflamed and didn't think the nose spray was really getting up there because he was so full of gunk.  So we got to help our 8 year old use a neti pot! He said if he didn't seem like he was clearing  up by Monday then he would put him on an antibiotic.  He claims he is feeling better and we did get some nasty stuff out so  hopefully this means next week he can do OIT not sick.  The updoses have been so boring (thankfully) that I forgot to get a picture of him on updose day.  So instead I got a picture of him dosing at home this week.

2nd updose

We had a successful second updose on Friday.  We went from 10mg of peanut protein to 15mg.  He is now getting 6ml per dose and so far no complaints.  He has still be battling a cold since we started and I am getting a little worried that it is not going away.  Dr. Shakir did put in him on a nasal spray, Nasocort to do at night just to see if it will help.  He just wants to make sure it is not the peanut that is causing the runny/stuffy/swollen/red inner nose.  We are praying it is just a yucky virus that is taking a little longer to clear since he body is busy fighting off the peanut everyday!  We have a snow storm coming this week so hopefully it won't effect our appointment on Friday.
